Developing The Film
March 2007:
Over 5 weeks in March this year, Phil Cox and a small team returned to Chad and the Darfur border to both shoot footage for Channel 4 News UK, an Oxfam campaign and also to find the children from Gegira. With the blessing and enthusiasm from the survivors of Gergira and other villages, they began intensive workshops to help the children tell their stories.

The work was not easy – fighting had spilled over into Chad and nearby villages were under attack. Yet, despite the dangers, thousands of refugees still turned out to be film extras, walking again across the very same deserts that they had fled across only months earlier. So keen are these people for their stories to be heard, even rebel groups have asked to participate in the filming. They want the world to know the truth.
The storyline and script are now in development.
